أعمال وسيرة القديس الأنبا ديمتريوس الكرام البطريرك الـ12
كان فلاحًا بسيطًا لا يعرف القراءة والكتابة.
كان متزوجًا وأقام مع زوجته سبعًا وأربعين سنة إلى أن اختير بطريركًا ولم يعرف أحدهما الآخر معرفة الأزواج.
وبعد أن قدُم بطريركًا امتلأ من النعمة السمائية وأنار الرب عقله فتعلم القراءة والكتابة ودرس كتب الكنيسة وتفاسيرها.
هو الذي وضع حساب الأبقطي الذي به تستخرج مواقيت الأصوام على قواعد ثابتة.
ولم يفتر أيام رئاسته عن تعليم المؤمنين وتثبيتهم في الإيمان الصحيح، ولما كبر وضعف كان يحمل على محفة إلى الكنيسة ليعلم الشعب.
أكمل جهاده المبارك في اليوم الثاني عشر من شهر بابه وتنيَّح بسلام بعد أن بلغ من العمر مئة وخمس سنين منها ثلاثًا وأربعين سنة في الرياسة.

Life and Works of Saint Anba Demetrius the Honorable, 12th Patriarch
He was a simple farmer who did not know how to read or write.
He was married and lived with his wife for forty-seven years until he was chosen Patriarch, and neither of them knew each other as spouses.
After becoming Patriarch, he was filled with heavenly grace, and the Lord enlightened his mind; he learned to read and write and studied the Church’s books and their interpretations.
He established the Coptic calendar by which the dates of the fasts are calculated on fixed rules.
During his patriarchate, he never ceased teaching the faithful and strengthening them in the true faith. When he grew old and weak, he was carried on a platform to the church to teach the people.
He completed his blessed struggle on the 12th of Baba and departed peacefully at the age of one hundred and five, forty-three of which were spent in the patriarchate.
