استشهد القديس بشنونة يوم 19 مايو من عام 1164م. الموافق 24 بشنس (وحاليًا يوافق هذا اليوم 1 يونيو).
وكان راهبًا في دير الأنبا مقاريوس بمصر، في فترة المعارك التي دارت بين رجال الأمير ضرغام، ورجال الوزير شاور، وفي فترة حكم العقاد الفاطمي، في أواخر القرن الثاني عشر تم اعتقال هذا الراهب. وحاولوا جعل قديسنا يترك إيمانه بالمسيح يسوع، ولكنه رفض بثبات وشجاعة، فأحرقوه حيًّا ونال إكليل الشهادة.
وأخذ أبناءه الأمناء ما تبقى من عظامه وحملوها إلى كنيسة أبوسرجا في مصر القديمة، ودفنوه هناك. وقد حدثت معجزات كثيرة ببركة صلوات وشفاعات هذا القديس العظيم، وإلى اليوم..
بركة صلواته تكون معنا، آمين. ولربنا المجد الدائم إلى الأبد، آمين.
Saint Bishnuneh was martyred on May 19, 1164 AD, corresponding to 24 Bashans (currently 1 June).
He was a monk in the Monastery of St. Macarius in Egypt, during the battles between the men of Prince Dirgham and the men of Minister Shawar, and during the reign of the Fatimid ruler al-Aqqad. In the late 12th century, this monk was arrested. They tried to make our saint renounce his faith in Jesus Christ, but he refused with steadfastness and courage. They burned him alive, and he received the crown of martyrdom.
His faithful followers took the remaining bones and brought them to the Church of Abu Serga in Old Cairo, where he was buried. Many miracles occurred through the prayers and intercessions of this great saint, continuing to this day.
