ان الصبي بيفام خال الأمير يوحنا الهرقلي، الذي رافقه خاصة في فترة استشهاده بصعيد مصر. أبى الشاب الأمير يوحنا أن يكون شريكًا مع دقلديانوس في الملك بزواجه أخت زوجته، ووبخ دقلديانوس بقوة وشجاعة من أجل جحده الإيمان، وإذ أرسله إلى مصر ليهدم البرابي ويعيد بناء أفضل منها، هدمها دون أن يبني غيرها بل وشهد لمسيحه أمام إريانا والي أنصنا فنال عذابات كثيرة واستشهد. عندئذ صار خاله بيفام وهو صبي في العاشرة من عمره يبكي، قائلًا: “الويل لي يا حبيبي يوحنا لأن لي حزنًا عظيمًا من بعدك، لأنك لما كنت في الجسد كنت أتعزى بك، وكان قلبي ثابتًا لأني كنت أنظر وجهك، يا سلوتي في غربتي”. خرج صوت من جسد القديس يوحنا، قائلًا: “يا حبيبي بيفام، إن كنت تريد أن تصير شهيدًا فدعْ جسدي هنا وأسرع لتلحق الوالي في مدينة أسيوط، فيكتب قضيتك، وها قد أمر الرب أن يوضع جسدك مع جسدي، وأما نفسك فستكون معي، وأنا أخرج وأتلقاها مع صفوف القديسين”.
إذ سمع الصبي هذا الكلام أسرع ولحق بأريانا في مدينة أسيوط، فصرخ: “أنا مسيحي”، ورشم ذاته بعلامة الصليب. غضب أريانا وأمر بتعذيبه وقطع رقبته، وكان ذلك في الخامس من شهر بؤونة.
The boy Befam was the uncle of Prince John of Heraclea, who accompanied him especially during the time of his martyrdom in Upper Egypt. The young prince John refused to share the throne with Diocletian by marrying his wife’s sister, and he boldly rebuked Diocletian for denying the faith. When Diocletian sent him to Egypt to demolish the pagan temples and rebuild better ones, he destroyed them but built none, instead testifying to his Christ before Arianus, governor of Ansena. He endured many tortures and was martyred. Then his uncle Befam, a boy of ten years old, began to weep, saying: “Woe to me, my beloved John, for I have great sorrow after you, for when you were in the body I was comforted by you, and my heart was steadfast because I saw your face, my consolation in my exile.”
A voice came from the body of Saint John, saying: “My beloved Befam, if you desire to become a martyr, leave my body here and hasten to follow the governor to the city of Assiut, where he will record your case. The Lord has commanded that your body be placed with mine, and your soul shall be with me, and I will go out to receive it with the ranks of the saints.”
When the boy heard these words, he quickly followed Arianus to the city of Assiut and cried out, “I am a Christian,” making the sign of the Cross. Arianus became angry and ordered that he be tortured and beheaded. This took place on the fifth day of the month of Baounah.
